Simple ...... A beautiful front porch for all sorts of special features
Our beautiful front porch has been useful for many different things over the past several months. There are chairs to sit and have a rest, hosting of community BBQ's, a place to get out of the rain, and we also think its a great place to feature local seasonal produce, flowers and plants. You never know what might be on the front porch to tempt you as you enter the store. Enjoy!
Fresh and local was the theme on the porch for summer 2014. Since we just opened June 27th, it was early August before we really started to use our new front porch. Velma, our awesome produce manager, made a delicious display of fresh Niagara peaches, plums & pears from Keyzers Fruit Farm outside Paisley, tomatoes, and watermelon. We also sold ALOT of fresh sweet corn which all our customers told us was especially sweet and delicious. It was a fun summer on the porch and we hope to expand our selection for summer 2015
We celebrated the local bountiful harvest on the front porch through September and October. Pumpkins, gourds and squash from local Mennonite farms, a wonderful selection of fresh picked apples from Keyzers Fruit Farm, beautiful chrysanthemums from a wonderful greenhouse in Zurich, a market garden near Formosa supplied us with more pumpkins, decorative corn stalks and sorghum. We hated to see the evenings getting cooler as it meant we would soon have to move back indoors.
Christmas arrived on the front porch in late November with fresh cut Christmas trees. We carried Fraser fir, Balsam fir and the traditional Scotch pine. We also sold out very quickly of little 2'-3' high Fraser fir trees, ideal for small homes and apartments. The porch also had a nice variety of wreaths, swags, custom made bows, garlands in various lengths, plus loose greenery to purchase and create your own arrangements. Preparing for Christmas was so much fun and we sold out of nearly everything on the front porch.
Now the front porch is patiently waiting for the snow to melt and warm sunshine.
Spring is slowly approaching but I am quickly planning for its arrival and what we can offer from the front porch. I would like to offer an awesome selection of bedding plants, but unsure what is most popular as I have limited space. I am tending to favour the idea of carrying a really good selection of hanging pots and pre-planted urns. There are some really beautiful combinations as well as different sizes and shapes. When I think what would be SIMPLE for my customers, I wonder if pre-planted is the way to go??
PLEASE let me know what you might like and what you will be searching for this spring.
I would really appreciate your input as I try to decide what to buy.
