Garlic Mashed Potatoes

whole cloves of garlicThis is a recipe borrowed from The Garlic Box at Hensall, Ontario.    We have started to carry their awesome Ontario frozen garlic cloves as well as some of their innovative and very delicious sauces, mixes and marinades all using fresh Ontario garlic.

We carry the garlic mashed potato seasoning and the garlic horseradish mashed potato seasoning, so I've decided to include the recipe for you.    I've tried the garlic mashed potato seasoning and it really gives your plain old mashed potatoes a nice kick.  I suggest following the recipe and not using more as it becomes really strong.  I over did it a bit thinking more is better, but the recipe is best.

  1. Place potatoes in a large pot and submerge in cold salted water (for a flavour boost, use chicken or vegetable broth instead of the water). Cover and boil on medium high for 20-25 minutes until fork tender. Drain. While potatoes are cooking, add seasoning to softened butter and let stand to infuse the butter. Either mash with a potato masher or beat with an electric mixer on low speed (I prefer the electric mixer to make a fluffier potato dish). Add seasoned butter, salt and pepper and gradually add milk a little at a time. Continue until you get a nice fluffy texture. Don't over mix or they can turn glue-like. Enjoy!!
